Investor Calls on Cambodian Authorities Amid YY Capital Dispute

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has appealed to Cambodian authorities to intervene in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, alleging serious financial misconduct.

According to letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice and other officials, the investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in actions that caused substantial financial harm, including embezzlement, fraud, and breaches of trust. The letters allege that several real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated, with preliminary findings suggesting that approximately $4 million was misappropriated for personal gain and for associates.

The letters also detail accusations of fabricated business dealings, including loan agreements totaling over $7 million, document forgery, and large-scale cash diversions orchestrated through shell companies linked to Yamada and alleged accomplices. Some funds, the letters say, were transferred to an overseas account registered in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

Further claims suggest that Yamada established shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan using nominees while maintaining direct control over related bank accounts and transactions.

The investor notes that Cambodian prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada, with court orders freezing assets and bank accounts. Investigations are reportedly ongoing in other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, covering allegations such as embezzlement, money laundering, breach of trust, and document forgery.

In his letters, the investor urged Cambodian courts and authorities to carry out a full and transparent investigation, warning that interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
